William Ray Norwood Jr., known professionally as Ray J, was born on January 17, 1981, in McComb, Mississippi, United States. He is an American singer, actor, and television personality. Ray J has been active in the entertainment industry since 1995.
Ray J's parents are Willie Norwood and Sonja Bates-Norwood. His older sister is the multi-platinum recording artist Brandy Norwood. When he was young, his family relocated from McComb, Mississippi, to Los Angeles, California. At the age of eight, Ray J began auditioning for and appearing in television commercials. He gained recognition for his role as the foster son in the television series "The Sinbad Show" from 1993 to 1994.
Ray J's acting career continued to flourish, and he landed a role on the UPN series "Moesha" as Dorian "D-Money" from 1999 to 2001. His easygoing image and boyish looks made him appealing to the producers of Brandy's show.
